3 Lessons I Learnt from Pursuing My Dancing Dreams

Learnt 3 Important Lessons while Pursuing my Dancing Dream

I strive to be a lifestyle entrepreneur … I do not want to be a successful meeting-freak “I-am-soooo-busy” looking entrepreneur … that’s so boring …. life’s more than work, answering emails, servicing customers,  meetings and networking … I strive to accumulate passive income as well as realising passion and dreams … So, the book that I’m worshipping regularly is Tim Ferris “4 Hours Work Week”, I applied two of his recommendations to pursue my life changing dream … They are two:-

  1. * The Art of Letting Bad Things Happen
  2. * The Art of Refusal

So, I am experimenting this two  Art from extracted from his teaching in his book and apply immediately … YES, it works … ! What Tim Ferris taught in the book was personally tested out by me and it really works … Thank You very Much Tim !

My New Year Dream was to self learn Chinese classical dance … My Chinese New Year Dream was to Dance Under Cherry Blossom Trees … Full Stop …and YES, I did it … I manage to dance under the Cherry Blossom Trees of the Yang Ming Mountain, Taipei … It was the annual floral festival there …

“Chinese New Year Achievement” -> I fulfilled my childhood dream, to dance under cherry blossom tree …
“Extra Surprise:” I danced in front of President Chiang Kai-Sek’s statue … What an honour …
“Extra Bonus for You:” I learnt 3 valuable lessons from the journey of chasing my dreams … I am sharing with you in the post …
If you don’t mind watching a mid-life crisis crazy Evanna Phoon dancing under cherry blossom tree in Taipei … Click the Video below ya …. Hope it lightens your day ya ?

Lesson #1: Self Discipline to have “Just Do It” Mindset

The Art of achieving this is the mindset is The Art of Letting Bad Things Happen

The Challenge: it’s a scenic tourist spot where most people are standing there taking photos, what they see are trees of cherry blossom … now, they suddenly see a stupid Malaysian housewife dancing like a mad monkey under the tree … what the ? hahaha  !… crowd start to gather and I became scared at first …

Overcoming The Challenge: However, I JUST DO IT !!! Just Dance …

I need to be very “thick face” to just dance on the popular spot that most tourist are lining up to take picture In front of President Chiang Kai Sek’s Statue (top right of the picture)

Post Dancing : After all the hassle and spending the tough effort at Dancing at Yang Ming Mountain, I found another ideal spot for dancing under cherry blossom tree … It’s at the Zhong Zhen Memorial Park, their floor surface is much better and the location is much more accessible … I could have danced there earlier , faster, easier and hassle free …

Aiyak, Found another more convinient place to dance under Cherry Blossom Tree … It’s at the heart of Taipei City, Zhong Zhen Memorial Park

Review of the whole experience: Nah ! There’s no “what if bla bla bla, I could have blo blo blo … ” If I were to turn back time, I will still choose to go through the hassle to climb up that steep mountain to dance … it’s the experience that counts, not the result … it is because from that experience, I really poured out my heart to achieve my goals … and I really enjoyed that feeling of giving all out to achieve my dreams …

Lesson #2: Self Discipline to Review Your “Just Do It” Aftermath

The Art of achieving this is the mindset is The Art of Letting Bad Things Happen

The challenge – The floor was very wet and uneven .. I can’t dance smoothly …This was the first time I dance. There’s only ONE take, no rehearsal … I have never been to this venue or experience the cold weather …

Overcoming the Challenge: Imperfections will be there, we JUST DO IT … at that time, the weather and wet floor condition was really out of my control so moving forward: I tell myself that the next location that I find in the future must be dry and smooth

Lesson #3: Self Discipline to Identify What You Really Want and to Eliminate all Distractions

The Art of achieving this is the mindset is The Art of Refusal

The Challenge: My real dream was to dance under cherry blossom tree … when I first started to climb the mountain, I stopped to help 3 Taiwanese girl 2 take photos. They offered the same to me but I kindly rejected. I told them, I m busy looking 4 dancing spot … I told them tat My dream is to dance under cherry blossom trees … & quickly rush up the mountains

3 of ladies were left speechless … but later on, they came back to find me … they were the ones who volunteered to help me hold my video camera … 🙂

a foreign tourist took photos of me … … this is what I called Happiness from “Syiok Sendiri” …

Overcoming Distractions: More often than not, we allow responsibilities, obligations or other commitments delaying us from achieving what we really want … sometimes, we are too shy and do not know how to reject … well, from this experience, I build up the confidence to say NO to obligatory tasks … yeah ! once again, some of my email subscribers asked me out for meetings, discussions, I’ve got companies or associations asking me for physical speak or train engagements …

I am so sorry, I must kindly reject all your kind offers … I very very rarely go out to do physical trainings, coaching, attend business meetings or networking events etc … Not because I am very “lan si” or arrogant … It is because I found what I really want and I need to eliminate the potential “business opportunities” that are causing major distractions from achieving what I want …

gao dim … achieved my dreams and strengthen my believe that “anything is possible” …

More is never enough … Opportunities will always be there …If you lose some opportunities, you will gain some other opportunities … If deep down in your heart, you know what you really want, you can clearly identify what are opportunities and what are distractions to you … … and say NO to the distractions and obligation-type of task… say YES to task that really Excites You … if you don’t know what you want, then, it’s so easy for external factors to influence you … external factors come in many forms of attractive incentives of satisfying our ego, satisfying our greed  etc … It’s harder said than done … and I am also learning how to overcome this every day … ahahah … I am not perfect, you know …

I only took picture of this mountain full of beautiful cherry blossom after achieving my dancing dream … I’ve learnt the importance of laser focusing to complete what I really want to achieve, the rest are just optionals .. we can’t have everything …

I just want to blog on foundermethod and continue to conduct FREE online seminars/courses to my community …  to create value and benefit my online community … I also choose to spend most of my time hiding in my little dungeon to self learn dancing and quietly doing my flower arrangements … all this activities requires me to spend TIME and be in a quiet environment to produce result …

Summary : Anything is Possible … Be Laser Focus on What You Really What , Just Do It , Review After That and Continously Improve to Perform Better each time … Most importantly, grab a copy of Tim Ferriss book “The 4-Hour Work Week” if you want spend your time enjoying your dream/passion while making passive income …

    Hi Evanna,

I am type of reader not writing review or comment due to laziness 🙂 However, your post is eye opening enough for me to kill my laziness for a while.
I like the way you use your passionate lifestyle and blend into business, perfectly.

I played the entire you tube and it was extremely beautiful your “惊鸿舞” under the cherry blossom. I salute your courage ! I bet you must have been extremely proud of yourself for overcome all kind of challenges to fulfill your dream. You got me think what is some dream I have but never having a courage to do it !

Btw,I have Tim’s 4 hours work week sitting on my book shelf for 4 years collecting dust. I did flip through a few pages over the years but found his book content not attractive enough for me to go on! After reading how you gotten so much insights and gems from his book, I think I should try to read it again properly with open mind.

Truly Evanna you dance well, very well! You have the figure, you have the sense of music and dance steps. You should consider doing it amateur for some local performance, not only “syok sendiri” la, lol …

    Cheers,
    Jen

tq jen 4 your comments …
the dance i love is imperial court dance, so, it’s not for public performance but for private “syiok sendiri” sessions … ahahah

when my girlfriend passed me the book, i was like “huh? can not be” … then i read it … i got culture shock
then i read it again and again and again, must have been like 20 times … then i start to IMPLEMENT what Tim’s teaching to my biz becoz at that time, i was really working non-stop like a mad women …

wow, it worked .. err, however, TIM’s bank account got fatter when he stop work .. My Bank Account got slimmer when i implemented his suggestion … hahhaahh … my income dropped a lot lar … but his “relative income” thingy works on me …
my income drop as a whole
but if i analyze carefully the TIME spent on work versus my income,
then i see that my income is slowly picking up …
and now, my income has real value cause i spent it on things i wanna experience, not things that everybody wanna OWN

now, every morning, i read 1 or 2 pages of TIM’s book …
and worship the book like god …
everyday, i slowly implement his teaching lor …
we all learn slowly … but then end in mind is: to generate passive income that supports our passion and basic living expenses … hahaha …

I love the term: “lifestyle enterpreneur” !

… striving to accumulate passive income as well as realizing passions and dreams. This some how struck my heart!

Many time, I wonder what is the points having so many meetings, catching up and networking. most of the time they left me feel only exhausted and tired, as I am extremely lazy type to move around and talking too much. I am fine with the moderate level of catching up with people but when EACH TIME the meeting having a purpose: WANTING to close sales or getting something from the other party then it becoming tremendous burden and less fun. I know personally some people enjoy doing this but I found it tough for me. I do not like traffic jam, I do not like to wait for people,I do not like countless long hour meetings.

I love Evanna the way you run your business, very smart model: PURELY online and WEB based. no hassle of having to drive around to meet people FTF and meeting for whole days. This avoid someone being burned out or stress out and have more quality time to spend on ourselves.

Most important, it is a win-win-win model for trio parties the organizer, presenter and us participants.

Happy 1 year anniversary for your “baby” ! Keep up your good work and we and many readers love having you !

    Jen

tqtq 4 your comments ya … appreciate a million … i really like doing networking, meetings, meeting different people but limited to things that I really enjoy doing, not for things that has commercial purpose … i was an insurance agent a few years ago (quite top sales), but i quit after 3 years because everytime i talk to people, we are trained to “get info” or “have a motive” … i felt really tired of it …

i oso started a few years back http://www.malaysiatrustee.com and was rockwills top recruiter (sort of) … hv many downlines under me … but most of my time is spent on building & training them … got very lazy & tired of giving them training, so, i developed an online training system specially 4 my group of members … now, i don’t meet or train any of my members, they all self service themselves with my online portal …
i also own http://www.GoogleForSME.com , was giving training to corporate clients but i announced my retirement from physical training end of last year to my biz partners … it’s automated now …

then i started https://www.foundermethod.com … got a lot of chance to meet people but i just totally set a rule and apologize myself and told them that i only do online meeting, i don’t go out for physical meeting or networking … i guess i m LOSING out BIG opportunities when i set this type of stupid rules … but my hobby on dancing and ikebana flower arrangement requires total focus, no disturbance …

this year, i am really tired of meeting people … maybe next year, I suddenly “sot sot dei” wanna meet people again, who knows …
most importantly is we choose to do what we wanna do
and this year, i only wanna “spend time doing my own hobbies”

it’s a choice between money making & biz opportunities VS personal hobby … 😀 …
i choose to spend time on personal hobby while providing value to my community 😀 …

      TQVM 4 your birthday wishes .. 😀 …
