My Tailor, My Inspiration, My Teacher

Ms Ea Siew Chun … My Tailor, My Inspiration, My Teacher

There are many courses available to train you how to overcome business or life challenges … But I find that meeting my tailor, making friends with her and through our engagement, I came to understand her challenges, talking to her was the greatest course I’ve ever “attended” … Her life is full of REAL challenges which was overcome thru sweat, tears and time … I am happy to share this her story with you …

From My Tailor’s Story, I learnt that I am super “unqualified” to complain about the “so-call” challenges I faced daily in my life or business 😀

All my clothes, dresses and dancing dresses were bought online as they are very nice, very cheap & I simply love expecting my package to be delivered to my home … I normally buy from mayuki.com.tw or taobao.com … My dance costumes are all from taobao.com and when I ordered them, they are usually bigger than normal. So, I needed to look for alteration service …

A few months ago, it was fate that I have the honour to meet a very special lady – Ms Ea …

a sign board in Kelana Jaya LRT station “Alteration Service 2nd Floor” drew my attention (as I was looking for alteration services) … So, I visited the shop and met the most amazing lady that inspired me. It was her that encouraged me to quickly finish my 4th self learn dance piece – plum flower dance (as shown in below youtube) …

We chat and I found out more about her that I would like to share with you … Her journey of life is very inspiring & I hope her little story is able to inspire you to overcome challenges in your life or business … She is my tailor, my inspiration, My Teacher. Ms Ea Siew Chun …

My tailor’s name is Ea Siew Chun … When she was two years old, she contracted polio … her parents were owners of small grocery shop and sent her to live with her aunt and uncle in KL. It was difficult for her caretaker to cope and soon she had to stop schooling after Year 2. She was frustrated, disappointed and sad to be left out from joining her siblings and others to play or learn at school.

She was later sent to a centre for the disabled for two years and during this two years, she worked hard to learn English and Chinese … She wrote to pen-pals to help her improve her writing skills …

A few years later, she went back to live with her parents but soon she found out that she didn’t enjoy being a cashier running her parent’s mini market. She found a job as an apprentice with a tailor in KL, after a few years, she started her own small business … Things seems to be working out, in 1995, she fell in love and got married.

Ms Ea at work … Perfecting my dance costume … Her main satisfaction comes from dressing up her clients with nicely fitted dress & clothes …

But after a year, her husband fell ill and passed away and that experience almost broke her … She withdraw from meeting people as she was very heart broken … After constant encouragement by her good friends, she finally regain confidence to start her tailoring business again …

Her shop currently is located in 2nd floor of Kelana Jaya LRT station … 6 months later, she will move to her original shop @ Atria, Damansara Jaya …

I asked her, “what made her customer love her so much ? she said that she has the rare ability to make a “smaller size” dress to fit a “larger size body” … huh ? how is that possible ? I have not tried that service out because I normally bring a “bigger size” dress for her to alter to fit a “smaller size body” … well, now I know …  that’s her unique selling point and what makes her customer come back regularly to seek her service … haha ! her main satisfaction comes from delivering nicely altered dress or clothes to her customer and see that her customer are looking good wearing them …

I brought my dance costume to her and she was very excited and happy to call me that she finished her work 2 days earlier and … she wanted to see me dance it that nice costume … I was motivated by her POSITIVE energy !!!!

She is a very direct & straight forward lady, just like myself … So, it was a joy to chit-chat with such personality … Sometimes I often think that I have huge challenges in my business or life but meeting her make all my “so-call” challenges such humiliating tiny and small …

She inspired me because of her story, her outlook and how she overcome real life challenges … she is physically disabled , in the verge of committing suicide due to the setbacks she faced and yet she found faith in God & grew to be positive … that’s very very amazing … This is fated and I am really honoured to be her friend …

I hope her story will inspire you too … 🙂 She is my tailor, my inspiration, my teacher. Ms Ea Siew Chun …

I feel truly inspired by this touching story.

We should all give thanks and be grateful for whatever we have. Many in this world and not so fortunate.

I actually visited this shop a few weeks back and deposited 2 of my pants to have the zip sewed. Unfortunately she didn’t seem that pleasant and I think she may have overcharged me. 🙁
