Your Business, My Business, Our Business, Whose Business?

I came across 99.999% people in insurance, MLM, franchise, resellers, affiliate programme will self hypnotically say,

  • MY company offers ….
  • MY Business allow me to ….
  • let’s meet at OUR office …
  • Together we build OUR Business …
  • YOUR Company’s policy is not as good as MY Company’s policy (fight fight fight … )

That’s really awesome that you’ve found your passion … but I wonder are they really YOUR Business ? Think again, I mean think deeply …

Many people will keep themselves so busy with chasing to achieve a certain position, a certain rank, break company records,  incentives, overseas trip, ego, awards, winning competition that they didn’t really think deeply who’s business and goodwill are they really building … ?

Find out your Real Position & Where you really stand, not the position OTHERS let you into believing … 

More often Do DEFINE what is YOURS and what is OTHERS … It’s very very easy to FOOL ourself …

In Lao Tzu’s Tao De Jing (Chapter #2 of #81 chapters) clearly has a quote to state on ways to “calm your nation” … if you study in detail and carefully, you can flip Lao Tzu’s concept 180 degrees and use it to “stir emotions to your nation”, you can use the opposite of his teaching in your business to “motivate” or “to fool” people into chasing after certain things (money, pride, greed, ego) that in return will help you greatly in achieve your business goals … However, if you use this method, it’s really fast to see results and you will need to cleverly manage people’s expectations and also do expect that these people will do “very unethical & nasty” things to pursue what you set people to chase after… if you have the skill, time and resources to manage this type of relationship, then you can go ahead to do it …

The neutral mindset I think for those who’s involve in Insurance, MLM, Franchise could be I am using Your Platform  (Insurance or MLM etc ) to Increase My Income, My Network and My Knowledge/Skill … 

Last year, I heard a talk from Phng Li Kheng, she was the ex-CEO of Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Shanghai… Her most well-known success: turning the almost bankrupt Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf franchise into a profit-making empire of 35 branches … it’s not her exact words but the message that I got from her talk was …

She told her staffs, “No matter how hard you work, you will NEVER own my company, but if you think that by working with me, you’ll be a better person, then do stay on … Work Hard, Learn as much as you can and use this platform to improve yourself for a better career in the future  … “

Honest, Truth, Straight to the Point … Li Kheng is NOT giving any impression that says “You and I work for Our Business … “ … If she said that, her staffs would have replied, “Yeah right, since you say it’s Our Business, why not just transfer your shares to us now ? Why Talk so much on motivation ?”  … She clearly draws out that her employees can gain income and gain experience and positive personal development by working hard for HER in HER Business …

Her staffs really love to hear that coming from their boss and they worked extra hard because she is telling them that they can “improve themselves to be useful in the future” by using her platform … Her method looks risky to be this honest but people that worked for her are working for a pure intention to develop themselves and to build her business … I love her method … and after listening to her talk, I am also using her method of communication in my work …

OR alternatively if you are really good at the art of “thick face black heart” , people that work for you will NEVER figure out that all their lifetime, they’ve used up their entire energy to build Your Business … hahhahha … that is also a HIGH SKILL to develop for Entrepreneurs that know they’ll depend on their sales and agency force  … And the MAESTRO of this HIGH ART of “thick face black heart” is none other than Liu Bei from the 3 kingdoms … he manage to perform this skill so skilfully that the master of strategies Kong Ming continue to stay loyal for his entire lifetime to both him (the founder) and his son (not very useful descendent) … Liu Bei used some tactics to make sure that Kong Ming continue to WILLINGLY devote his ENTIRE lifetime and energy to serve him & his son … So, this is very famous in Chinese history, we call it  鞠躬尽瘁,死而后已 …  

OK, back to Li Kheng … after opening up 35 profit making Coffee Bean chain in Shanghai, She later also said, “hmmm … I soon realised that no matter how hard I work, I never own Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, I am just their franchisee “ … With no regrets, she then sold off her already successful franchise license and stayed on as the Director of Business Development for Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Shanghai … I personally think Phng Li Kheng so COOL and AWESOME now focusing on her true love Kenchara Forest Retreat  …

If you decide to enter corporate, do grab all the opportunity to increase your network, your contacts, your income and your knowledge … 

If you decide to enter a sales force of a company (insurance, MLM, franchise, etc), same thing … do grab all the opportunity to increase your network, your contacts, your income and your knowlege … 

Among Network, Income and Knowledge … The best asset that you can take away is your NETWORKS …

  1. Using Your Personal Account, Try Your Best to Friend all people that you’ve worked with using Facebook
  2. Using Your Personal Account, Try Your Best to Connect with all people that you’ve worked with using LinkedIn
  3. Update Your Facebook & LinkedIn profile to reflect your current business or career and feel free to engage them in any future business opportunities …

For those of you who want to leverage on your staffs and at the same time prevent your staffs to use take away your company’s network when they resign … These are 3 simple steps 

  1. Create a company account in Facebook & LinkedIn using Company Email (example: Facebook@Company.com or LinkedIn@Company.com), give assess to whoever staffs that will administer the account on Facebook & LinkedIn. If they leave, you still retain your username, change you password and retain YOUR networks …
  2. while your sales force & staffs are still passionately working for you, skill-fully ask them to drive traffic and their connection to Your Company Facebook or LinkedIn Account
  3. Have a system to train your staffs on how to update Your Facebook & LinkedIn post and profiles …

No matter Who’s Business you are building or developing … SELLING is a MUST HAVE … whether you like it or not … Sales = Blood of Your Business … 

I observed that Insurance, MLM has the BEST training and marketing knowledge that you can learn from … So, for young graduates, if you don’t know what to do … I strongly advice you to try out Insurance or MLM where you face a lot a lot of REJECTIONS and you need to do SELLING

    I find this very helpful article, well written and so much in it that can be retrieve for own guidelines. Sometime we might be blind to see what we should see unless someone shows us the ways..
